First things first:
“Your Curiosity Will Cost You One Donation For The Royal Flying Doctor Thank You”
Hahaaaa!!! Not quite there yet, but at least SOMEONE got the hint in my previous post
Now change one other word into something more easy and you’ll be fine!
Ok so here I am again, after the 5week trip of my life, in Casa Charlie Brookes, Melbourne, Australia, the world, the universe!
I arrived here 2 days ago so since my last post a looooot of things happened, I’m about to tell you guys about it right noooowwwww:
:: 4th September :: Blue Mountains ::
We (Mattias and me) left on a roadtrip to the Blue Mountains, the trip was supposed to take us about one hour but it took a liiiiittle bit longer because of stupid Sydneytraffic and this and that…
So after the loooong drive we arrived in Katoomba at Echo Point. It’s a point where you have beautiful view over the Blue Mountains and from where we saw the rock formation called The Three Sisters. (They’re called blue because of the blueish mist that hangs over the mountains in summer because of the eucalyptusoil that evaporates) (and that’s a very bad translation but you get the point I hope
)

After that we did a nice walk to Leura Falls and some other magnificent lookoutpoints.
When we got back to Katoomba we did some winetasting and bought our host for the next evening a nice bottle of wine there.
Then it was already time to head back to Sydney, after another verrrry long and dark ride we got back into the city, had dinner and when we headed back to the trainstation we passed by an UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL view of Sydney by night.

Sydney by night
:: 5th September :: FIREALARM@YHA
, Sydney Aquarium and visit to Brigitte ::
During the night in my hostel, YHA Railway Square, I woke up from a strange but very loud noise, I couldn’t believe my own ears when I realised what it was… FIREALARM

There must must be something setting-off-firealarms in the air when I’m around…
(for those of you who only joined the Marijke fanclub after Sweden: click here and here)
Anyway, there wasn’t really a fire, but I got to see Sydney by night sooner than I thought

YHA Railway Square @ Sydney
The next morning the weather was sooo bad, it was pouring, raining cats and dogs!!!
It was good that our schedule for the day didn’t include a lot of outside things…
I went to the Sydney Aquarium and Mattias paid a visit to the Maritime Museum because he had already been to the Aquarium.

Sydney Aquarium
The Aquarium was pretty impressive, they also had 2 big outside tanks, one with seals and the other one with sharks and seaturtles. But to me the most impressive one was the last one “The Great Barrier Reef Theatre”, it was MASSIVE! In it were a looooooot of schools of different colourful fish, corals and some sharks, there was even a diver inthere, answering questions from the audience, pretty cool.
After our aquqrium/museumtrips it was still rainingrainingraining outside so we had a quick lunch and around 3PM we decided to leave to go to Brigitte’s house, she lives in a suburb of Sydney but we figured it might take us an hour to get there… So first we took the train to Mattias’ car and then the car to Westleigh, IN SYDNEY RUSHHOUR… We arrived there at 4.30PM! 1,5h!!! Can you believe it!
Anyway, we had a very warm welcome at Brigitte’s house where we met her husband and their 3 children. I had seen her only once when she was in Belgium 5 years ago but I couldn’t have recognized her when I would have seen her on the street…
We talked and talked and talked, in our Flemish-English mix of languages.
But we agreed that English was the easiest to say the things we wanted to say, even after only 5 weeks I have to admit that I’m starting to think in English. After dinner we also met a South-African friend from Brigitte and we played on the Wii with the children, soooo funny!
It was already around 1AM when we left the Brigitte’s house, we had a great evening but I had to get up the next morning at 6AM so it was time! I was a bit worried because having no cellphone means having no decent alarm clock… Thank God for the (very silent) alarm on the iPod though!
:: 6th September :: Sydney – Canberra – Jindabyne ::
I got picked up in the city to leave on my last tour which would take me from Sydney to Melbourne in 3 days. The group for this tour was absolutely brilliant. There were 2 Mexican women and a Spanish guy, y mucho Espanol es siempre muy bien! There was also a girl from Haaaasseeeeeeeeeeeeelllt! So I got to practice my second favourite dialect in the world again, can’t wait to be back there
AND we had the same awesome tourguide who I had 3 days before on the trip from the surfcamp to Sydney.
First stop on our roadtrip: ACT (Australian Capital Territory) Canberra!
This is the capital of Australia, (no it’s NOT Sydney!) but except the Parliament House and some embassies, there’s not much to see there…
We paid a visit to the Parliament House, saw the house of representatives, the senate, climbed up the roof, saw a flag that could cover a doubledecker bus, had a great view over the city (whose structure is very similar to Washington DC, all the “monuments” on one line) and then left again.
Ahja, another stop in Canberra was the Australian War Memorial. Very BIG and impressive museum about the ANZAC (Australia and New Zealand Army Corps) in the Great Wars. A lot of them fought (and died) “in Flanders Fields” so it was kind of strange to see so many familiar Flemish names there.
After Canberra we headed of to the town where we were gonna spend the night, Jindabyne.
This is a town where a lot of Australians come in winter because it’s so close to the ski-areas. Very funny to see all the skishops and stores that we usually see in France or Germany, but now in Australia
The guide also told us it was right next to Lake Jindabyne but when we arrived it was already dark so there was no Lake to be seen… We would only find out the next morning how close we were.
:: 7th September :: Jindabyne – Perisher Blue – Lakes Entrance ::
Time to get up, open the curtains and…
WWWHHOOOOOWWW!! There was a huuuuuge lake right behind our hotel! Welcome to Jindabyne
After breakfast we left to the biggest ski-area in Australia, Perisher Blue.
YES! I saw snow in Australia. Even more, I saw people skiing, snowboarding, skilifts, the whooooole skithing going on in Australia!
I said to myself, can this be the same country from the koalas, the crocodiles, the shark, the vast desert, the outback, …? Pretty strange, but yes!
We only had 1,5h to spend there so no skiing for me, but we did go “snowtubing”.
I have to go now, I’ll finish this very exciting post laterrrr and try to add some pictures.
